✅ Am I Eligible for the Chase Sapphire Preferred?
To qualify for this bonus:
You must not currently hold any Sapphire card (Preferred, Reserve, or Original Sapphire), and
You must not have received a Sapphire sign up bonus within the last 48 months (4 years)
If you’re unsure about your last sign up bonus date, check your statement history and look back to see your first 3-4 statements. Your rewards are located at the top right corner of each statement – check to see when your sign up bonus hit, then count 4 years ahead from your statement date.
🔄 Can You Churn the Sapphire?
Yes! This is the secret!!
To churn a Sapphire and Reapply for a new Sapphire and receive the sign up bonus again:
You must wait at least 48 months since your last Sapphire sign up bonus posted.
You cannot currently hold a Sapphire card. If you do, we recommend product changing your current Sapphire. Details below.
You must be under 5/24 (fewer than 5 personal cards opened in the past 24 months).
Ideally, your credit score should be 750+ for best approval odds.
🔁 How do I Product Change my Sapphire?
If it’s been 4+ years since you received your last Sapphire bonus but you still have the card, you’ll need to product change or cancel it before reapplying. Chase won’t approve you for a new Sapphire card if you currently hold one.
We recommend product changing instead of canceling.
How to product change:
Call Chase and request to switch your Sapphire card to the “no annual fee original Freedom Visa that earns Ultimate Rewards.” If the representative doesn’t know what that is, hang up and try again (seriously—it works). This no annual fee original Freedom is a great earner card, earning 5x on up to $1,500 each quarter on rotating cateogries (this quarter it is Amazon and select streaming). Product changing preserves your credit history and gains you a great earning card. Your points stay with the new Freedom card. Once you have a new Sapphire (or you have a Player 2 with a Sapphire), you can combine points back to the Sapphire so you can transfer to travel partners.
Once the product change is complete, wait at least two weeks or until your next statement closes, whichever is sooner, before applying for the Sapphire Preferred. We recommend you product change no later than Monday, April 28th to allow sufficient time.
